REuse, REduce, REcycle, REegg

Easter is over, the candy is gone (or maliciously destroyed by ungrateful children. I'm not bitter about it or anything), the baskets are put away, but the plastic Easter eggs are still here.
We could toss them into our landfills, or clean, sort, box up and store until next year and hope we don't forget they are there before we buy more, or we could donate them to a local charity that won't be able to use or sell them for a whole year either, or we can use them.

Uses for plastic Easter Eggs:

Tooth boxes for hiding lost teeth under your pillow

Lunch Money or milk money containers

Save and use to hide clues in for your next treasure hunt

Fill with cereal and keep in your purse for the kids

Fill with dried beans and glue shut for hand maracas

Tape to balloons to make noses, eyes, and other odd shapes for paper mache pinatas

Fill with love notes and stick in your child's lunch box

Serve scrambled eggs in them for breakfast and let the kids crack them open onto their plates

Use as cookie cutters

Fill them with homemade Gak and let the kids give them to their friends (but only if you are already hated by all the moms in the neighborhood)

Use to package vegetables in your child's packed lunch
Toss them in the bathtub, they make great bath toys for kids.
And while many of these ideas may still end up with the plastic eggs going in the garbage, as long as it isn't your garbage you don't have to feel the guilt, right? RIGHT?

And if you do feel guilt, Scribbit has a great way to work through such guilt in her Winter Bazaar along with other ideas from great bloggers.

Great ideas. :)

I wish I were feeling REMOTELY ambitious, I might actually work up the gumption to try some.

Unfortunately, they're going into the box and packed away til next year. ;)

I love recycling and reusing! We save our eggs for next year.

Those are some fun ideas. I usually pack them away for next year, but we have a couple that have hung aroud-in the bath tub, as a rattle...

Why did you have to make those darn plastic eggs useful? I swear, those things procreate every year....

Easter may be gone but the candy hasn`t, not in my house anyway. My love of candy has me watching the weight every minute of the day because I am eating the sweet stuff every minute of the day too.

You are too creative ... I just save mine for next year. I don't think I have bought plastic eggs for at least 3 years :) !!

Those are all great ideas.

Thanks for the ice cream tip helping the flu. I think ice cream (especially heavenly hash) cures whatever ails (sp?) you.
I am a terrible speller.

I designed a knitting pattern for a baby rattle that uses three of those darn things.

Duchess, are you serious? I would LOVE to see it.

I used to take empty ones to church to keep A occupied in sacrament meeting. He would open and close them, open and close them, open and close......

Can I put in a request for a couple of maracas?
GAK is such a gross term, I prefer zook, but to each their own.

You seem inordinately fond of plastic-encased food products. Nothing is as appetizing as asparagus in a purple nonbiodegradable egg.

Jonah,
I don't find it appetizing but for some reason my kids think that anything encased in a small plastic package is AWESOME. Call it a product of commercialistic consumerism success.

what great ideas! i feel bad I already threw mine away! I wish I still had them now!!!!

Great ideas. We throw ours in the big tub with the play dishes and just use them as pretend food. Lots and lots of egg dishes get made when playing pretend restaurant or house.
