On the thirteenth day of Halloween, my good friend gave to me thirteen Jack-0-lanterns, twelve cauldrons bubbling,eleven bats a-swooping,ten goblins gobbling,nine wizards whizzing,eight brooms a-flying,seven spiders creeping,six owls screeching, five cooked worms, four giggling ghosts, three fat toads, two hissing cats, and a vulture in a dead tree.

Starting today there are only 13 days left 'till All Hallows Eve and that means it is time to start the celebrating. This year, in honor of Halloween, I will be reading Bram Stokers Dracula (last year I read Shelly's Frankenstein, and the year before that it was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), I will be watching Creature From the Black Lagoon with my kids, Young Frankenstein with my hubby, and Arachnophobia by myself. But this year I want to do more. There are no turkeys to cook, no cards to write, no presents to wrap, no stress to worry about. I am going to take advantage of this and do all the things I wish I had time to do during the other holidays, but with a freaky twist to them of course. We are going to make haunted candy houses, paint Halloween ornaments, make ghost cookies and take them to our neighbors, read a pile of Halloween books I got from the library, make caramel apples, carve pumpkins, roast pumpkin seeds, and make mummy hot dogs.

I'm working my way towards making a bigger deal about all the holidays. I limit myself to buying one new decoration each year, although this year I bought 3...leaf garlands, a scarecrow, and spiderwebs for the house.
I'd really like to get a tree that I can decorate with ornaments for each holiday, halloween, valentines, easter, etc. Are your ornaments for something like this? If so, where did you get your tree? Can't wait for pictures.
Oh, and you are very brave to watch arachnaphobia by yourself.
Jen, we don't make them for a tree. I just buy the wooden shapes from JoAnn's (they are like 3/$1), we paint them, and then I string them up on some rustic twine and we hang it on our wall. It always looks cute.
Halloween is so much fun...I'll be watching Young Frankstein too! Thought about going to Frankstein's castle this year, but not sure how the little one would react...maybe next year.
