Gross!

I am totally going to Lowe's Hardware store today and getting myself a funnel. This should keep me from peeing all over my hand every time I go to see the doctor (like today) and have to give a urine sample. Why they think I can aim into that little cup when I can barely reach down there, let alone see what I'm doing... I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner.

On the brighter side of things, if any of you are big pregnant, have little ones at home, and are in serious need of a little rest, I highly recommend getting a non-stress test done. I mentioned to my doctor that I haven't felt the baby kicking lately. She scheduled me for an immediate non-stress test. Now, just like when your kid is on the verge of death and so you finally take him in to see the doctor and he is bouncing off the walls and just fine, until you get home again, this little baby started kicking like crazy as I was going up the elevator. I told the head nurse and she said we should still do the test. It was lovely. For a whole, uninterrupted hour I sat in a comfy, reclining bed, sipping cold cranberry juice, and read an entire National Geographic article without and disturbances. It was heaven. I think I need to go in for a non-stress test at least once a day! =)
Oh, and the baby is perfectly healthy and fine. The doc says he feels around 5-6 pounds which means hopefully 7-8 pounds on delivery. Whoo Hooo. I've been worried about a 10 pounder because of the way I've been eating. And my doctor was totally cool about the fact that I plan to take caster oil on my due date (June 26th). So, besides the pee thing, it has been a good day.

Just about any day when you can chill for an hour without any interruptions is a good day. I'm happy to hear the baby is healthy!

I will have to file that tip away for my next pregnancy.

ugh. i hate the non-stress tests. not the part when i get to sit without interruptions. the part where i have to find a sitter for my kids three times a week for the last seven weeks of my pregnancy. that's the perk of having a preemie and a placenta that failed. during my last pregnancy i begged my ob to let me stop them after a few weeks--we finally compromised on twice a week for the last month.
i'm glad you got to enjoy it, though. and that's great news that your baby's not 10 lbs. i'm pulling for june 22--that's my birthday, and it's always been good to me.

I was wondering when your due date was! I hope you have him close if not before it!! Best of luck. Does castor oil really work? I've been looking into "natural" inducers.

Michal,
Oh, I hear you. And going in that often would drive me to tears. I was just lucky that I have a great babysitter friend this time around and this was the only one I've had to have. With Cookie I had to do a lot of them and it was not as fun. And June 22nd would be wonderful, but I usually go overdue.

Tirzah,
I used caster oil with Sweet Terror and it was the easiest, quickest labor ever. And it was the only time I've had my water break on its own. I'm going to try it again and if it works as nicely I will recommend it to everyone. I think the trick is to use it when you are overdue and not to try and go early. Everyone I know who has used it before their due date just got sick.

A funnel! What a brilliant idea! I'm glad baby is doing well. I had one stress test when I was almost a week overdue just to make my midwife happy but I didn't get cranberry juice. Dang!

Less than a month to go!!!

I bet you are getting excited! Good to hear that the baby is healthy. I think they should issue non-stress test for all moms routinely so we don't get too stressed! That would be nice. :)

I felt the exact same way about my non-stress tests! I "had" to have them since my pregnancies are high risk and I gotta tell ya, I wasn't complaining;) Glad everything is well!

The funnel...very funny Ice Cream. Very. Funny. You just kill me sometimes.

Non-stress test...doesn't the name just say it all? I love those...I wish I could have one when I'm not pregnant just for the fun of it all.

And I would pay good money to see you walk into that doctor's office with a funnel!

Popped over from Scribbit -

The non-stress test sounds awesome! I try to do that every morning from 6 to 7 - after my husband leaves and before Lil Sugar wakes up.

I loved your birthday story and I'm jealous.

Enjoy the last few weeks of freedom you have! I'm just waiting for the day when our little one will sleep through the night in her crib - This morning I didn't have to go get her until 3 this morning :)

I did the castor oil thing on my 6th one (she was 12 days late and I was being threatened with induction). It was very harsh. Definitely worked, though.

GREAT TIP! :)
I wish I had thought of that Pee Funnel! Girl...you could submit that idea to the "invention" place or something for DISPOSABLE PEE FUNNELS for doctor's offices, health depts, etc.....
you could be a millionaire in 2 years!!

oh .... and YAY about the stress test results. I remember that when I was pregnant i was a little paranoid through the entire thing (both times) ...just the way it is....yours sounds like a Joy Ride!

ok..this comments is long enough...i'll quit now :)

((i love your blog and I LOVE ice cream, too!))

Hi there!
I found your blog through Michal's. I had to laugh out loud when I read your funnel trick! I also am pregnant, due the 28th, you got 2 days on me! At my appointment this week, that funnel really could have come in handy! It was quite the site!
Haven't had a non-stress test, but it sounds pretty nice..have to look in to this!
Hope you have a safe delivery!

I've never tasted castor oil. I thought it was just for the Little Rascals. Be sure to have your ice cream cone ready for after.

Ok, this has nothing to do with funnels or non stress tests, part of my life that is long gone, but I came over from Scribbit and discovered you are reading the book I just finished, Watership Down. I loved it even though I didn't think I would. Now, my kids and I are going to read it aloud this summer.

I love non-stress tests, of course just a test stressed me out. Hey, call my mom, she wants to know if you want that plaything still, or she is going to give it to someone else, my dad could even bring it over. (I will volunteer him, ha ha)

Stopping in to say hello from Scribbit - I totally agree with the non-stress test - I had my best nap ever during one of those.

I'll be back. Take care of yourself.

They actually sell these through REI... I guess for camping-a-la-no-bathroom. http://www.rei.com/product/407267?cm_mmc=ps_google-_-Category%20-%20Camp%2fHike-_-Camping%2fHiking_brand_Sani-Fem-_-urine%20funnel&gclid=CJyR6IiHz5MCFRILIgodFkekjA

Funny, though. You'll probably save a lot more money with the Home Depot one.

I'm due about 2 months after you, and I'm also having problems peeing all over myself giving urine samples. I wonder if they have a compact one you can stick in a purse.

I'm not too concerned about having a big baby... I'll have another c-section anyways... which is good since last time I had a boy, he was 10 lb 2 oz.

maybe that's why they call it a non-stress test! It's your opportunity to have an hour without stress, or at least with a minimum of stressful thought.

I do enjoy the downtime during non-stress-tests, but to have to find a sitter at least on a weekly basis gets hard to do.

The funnel idea is too funny! I am sure the nurses would just crack up to see a pregnant lady bringing one in. I wouldn't even bother hiding it in my purse. I'm glad that you got to relax for an hour, especially since you have a good friend taking care of the kiddos at home.

You should totally invent a pregnant woman peeing in a cup funnel thingie! You'll be rich!
Glad your lil guy is Ok!

A funnel! So funny! I bet it will work.

I'm sure you can find a funnel at the dollar store. Get it cheaper.

Can I have a non-stress test even though I'm not expecting?

The funnel idea is a good one!

Non-stress tests... sounds like it's accurately named. Unfortunately for so many, so is the stress test - inducing LOTS of stress and anxiety. :)

I haven't had a chance to read through your archives yet. I am curious to get your opinion of B&J's Dublin Mudslide.

I had the same problem with peeing in those darn cups in my last pregnancy! :)

A funnel! You are the smartest person I know! Love it!
I had a non-stress test with my first only it was actually pretty stressful because they did not like what they were seeing...They kept coming in and checking the monitors and asking me if I moved etc etc. Oh well. It all turned out good and I did not have one with my last baby.
I don't know if I could do the castor oil thing.

A funnel - brilliant idea! Wish I had thought of that at the time! Only a few weeks left - you must be getting excited!

LOL on the funnel - SO TRUE and glad I am not the only one ;)

Wow...that brings back memories. :)
Can you believe all the things we women are subjected to? Glad you enjoyed the stress test though. And I'm super glad your baby is ok. :)
